Vintage Samurai Armored Vest

A MYSTERY FIND!

This is one of the wildest finds we've ever come across. A vintage Samurai / Ninja Style Metal Plated Armored Vest.

Since I don't know much about these, I took it to someone that does. His opinion was that it is not any kind of original Japanese item from a thousand years ago. He said it was most likely from the 1960s and was still a really good find.

As you can see from the photos, the vest has a red spider and web painted on it. The vest also has blue padding on the inside of the shoulders. It looks to me like this was an antique that someone stumbled upon years ago and decided to use as a Halloween costume or something. The reason I say that is because this thing is HEAVY!!! A costume would not have been its original purpose. There is also a very high level of detail. This thing must've cost some serious money to make originally.

This vest weighs roughly 16 pounds and measures approx. 15" X 15" (when standing upright like in the first photo.) In picture #3, I laid a yardstick down next to it to give you an overall idea of the size.

Condition: Ok so as you can see, this vest has quite a bit of wear. The leather is scuffed up in places and there is a fair amount of rust on the metal. Overall the vest holds together nicely and can be worn without issue. When I tried on the vest (yes I tried it on haha,) I did notice one other issue. The vest has a musty / smoky / old leather odor to it. You've got to get close (or in my case, try it on) to notice it, but its definitely there.

It is really hard to say what I have here. Just how rare are these?

Either way, I am very excited about this find. I will continue to look for more information on it and update the listing if I do.
