This antique glass torpedo bottle is well over 100 years old. Torpedo bottles were used from the mid 1800s until about 1910. This one has a nice aqua color to it. As you can see in the photos, it does have some signs of age including a couple of small chips to the surface as well as some lines in the glass. Pretty much normal wear for a bottle this old. Judging by the bottle seams that run up the sides of the glass, I’d say this one was made sometime around the 1890s. It could’ve been made in the 1900s but if it was, it was very early 1900s.

Torpedo bottles were mostly used for shipping and storing liquids during the 1800s. Regular shaped bottles that sat upright for long periods of time would often have their corks dry out and disintegrate into the bottle. The torpedo design aimed to fix this problem. The rounded shape of the bottom meant that they had to be stored sideways. This kept the cork wet.

Bottle measures approx. 9 inches and weighs 1 pound.
